The Foreign Exchange Market (FOREX Market) is an entity which allows a person to buy and sell money. This „exchange-of-money” market creates the foreign cxchangc rate, which is essential in a global economy. In effect, the foreign exchange rate is determined daily - by the turnover of all goods and financial products worldwide.
The FOREX Market carries on trade (buying & selling) using two, different methods: 1) an exchange takes place immediately; or 2) later, but within a specific time-frame. As an example of the second method, it is helpful to think about an individual investor, who can make money by buying a specific currency today (at the current exchange rate) and then selling the currency at a future time when the exchange rate is more beneficial to the seller.
Individual investors arc the most important participants in the FOREX Market. Other participants are the individuals worldwide who deal daily with the import and export of goods. Another very important group of participants are the central banks, who undertake monetary investments in order to prevent the excessive fall or growth of a particular currency.
The word "FOREX" comes from the English language phrase "foreign exchange." And the phrase, the "FOREX Exchange Market" is the name of the greatest market in the world - the American Market whose turnover sometimes reaches about five (5) billion American dollars a day. This number is only the value of the turnover, and because this market uses its finances as leverage, the real amount is much lower.
The FOREX Exchange Market is open 24 hours a day, from Sunday 11 p.m. to Friday 10:00 p.m. (Central European Time). The greatest advantage of this market is its liquidity, and its ability to immediately register the purchase or sale of any amount of currency without difficulty. The FOREX Exchange Market is of the OTC type, which means that it is decentralized and without any individual global unit supervising the turnover
